Photoshoot with Velvet D’Amour (II)

Last year I had a fantastic photoshoot with plus size model turned photographer Velvet D’Amour.

In fact, I had such a good time, I did it again this year. This year was a little different. It was less about the clothes, more about me. I wanted everything a bit softer – since I’ve been powerlifting, my body size and shape has changed (and continues to do so).

So early this year, I headed down, to catch up with Velvet, make up artist Rachel, and luckily spend a little time with the stunning ladies already down there, including Yazmin the Fox (who I can attest to being even more stunning in real life as she is online).

Whereas on my last visit, I had a very clear idea of what I wanted, and had chosen my six outfits accordingly, this visit, I was far more unsure. They say body positivity is a journey, and it’s true. My body shape has changed massively, I’m almost a little more balanced, as my shoulders (and boobs) are bigger thanks to bench work, and I’m more solid generally. So as the weights I lift get bigger, another bit of me shifts a bit, and I have to get used to another bit of me changing shape.

And get used to buying new clothes.

Rachel started by giving me a do that was soft and fluffy. Followed by make up that had a vintage edge, but again was softer than we’ve done before. The outfits were interchangeable. From jeans and one of Mr GFB’s shirts, to a soft red jumper from Yours Clothing, and stockings from Big Tights Company, paired with a beach cover up from ASOS

Velvet always puts you at ease. Even when she’s asking you to climb ontop of a kitchen island and pull a yoga pose, or pad out to the poolhouse at the shoot location, to stand braless in a faux fur coat. Her work features in Volup 2 magazine, and her time as a model means she knows how to get the best from you, even if you don’t feel glamorous or ‘pretty’.

These are, I hasten to add, only six of the images taken. Velvet takes a lot. Lots for you to choose from, and including in the hour with her are six images. Every one after is £20, and of course, you can have as many as you want. I’ve got six for now, but there are a few more I want, so when I’m feeling a little more flush, I’ll email her and add more to my collection. Especially the half naked faux fur coat ones. Because fluffy.

Velvet’s next shoot is in Staffordshire at the stunning Sugnall Hall, and there are two payment options if you’re worried it might be too expensive. For more information, drop Velvet an email.

It’s totally worth it.
