So, I’m officially admitting defeat.
After discussion with my trainer and my physio and myself, I’m deferring my Manchester Marathon place to next year. It’s my own fault. I’ve not been stretching enough, or hitting the massage table enough. Bad girl.
Lesson learned the hard way.
That’s not to say I’m not running, or even running a long distance this year – I’ve booked in the Colour Run again, as soon as payday rolls around again I’ll be registering for the Great Manchester Run – and I’m looking for another half marathon later in the year.
But big news, my ballot for the Great North Run was successful!! So I’ll be heading up north for that 13.1 miler, only my second, in September. To say I’m excited, would be an understatement!
I’ve also spotted the Moonrise Run. Taking place in Heaton Park on 18 April, this is a short 5km run at night (as the name would suggest) and ending with a concert. Like the Colour Run, this is another run that anyone can take part in, it’s not one to do to aim for a personal best, more one to enjoy, and experience, so I expect to see lots of people of all ages, shapes and sizes, with their LED bands on, jogging through the dark of the park, before hitting a street food van or two and dancing the night away.
I can’t help wondering if they’ll let me do the course twice…!
But none of this is going to be possible without fixing the original issue and this is where the weekly yoga class, PKBreathe at PKB Coffee is coming in handy.
7am Wednesday mornings, sees the opposite of the PKBlast sessions, where fitness addicts play with fitness gear on the rooftop of Barton Arcade.
Instead, PKBreathe, is all about relaxing, stretching and energising and even for a relative beginner in yoga like me (no shoulder stands here yet), it’s accessible. And whilst we’re indoors at the moment, come the spring, we’ll be on the rooftop too.
The bonus of a breakfast and/or coffee for your £12 isn’t bad either (PKBlast is the same price).
So if you’re fancying something a little different, grab your mat and head over. I can promise there’s nothing like listening to the birds tweet in St Ann’s Square, a sun salutation or two and a green smoothie, before you prepare for your day ahead.
I’ll see you there.
