Breakfast Review: Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club

It’s one of the best parts of a break away isn’t it? Or even one of the perks to working away.

The hotel breakfast. 

For once, you don’t have to be the one prepping it, so you can forgo that measly bowl of cereal, or hurried instant porridge at your desk in the office. Someone else does the hard work, even the tidying and washing up afterwards. And it’s something that I’ve experienced a lot of recently. Good and bad.

I don’t have to remind you of that dreadful experience in the hotel in Liverpool do I?


I don’t think a meal has ever left me feeling so depressed.

So learning that Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club had theirs voted Best Breakfast In The North West by TriVaGo was music to my ears. Firstly because I’m always going to big up one of our own, but secondly because it was an excuse for a good feed. And everyone knows how fond I am of those.

Worsley Park is like a TARDIS. From the outside it looks quite big – I mean it does have spa, leisure facilities, hotel and a gold course, but nothing prepares you for the inside. It’s huge. Vast. Using the visit as an excuse, myself and my date wandered around, from the Country Club, through to the spa, before finally making our way to The Grill, where breakfast was being served. 

The breakfast offering too is huge. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen such a big selection.

Porridge? You got it, along with all the toppings you could want for both this, and your cereal – if cornflakes are too boring for you.

Fruit, yoghurt, cooked meat, cheese, pastries, croissants, muffins. Yes, yes and yes.

It was hard to know where to start. Luckily the staff were on hand with our saviour. Coffee to start.

That’s better. Now to decide where to start – and you know where I was headed. To where the action is. The hot stuff.

Overseen by a chef is where you’ll find just about everyone. Warmed salvers hold your bacon, mushrooms, sausages and eggs. All of which are topped up regularly.

And chef stands pride of place, because you can have your eggs made to order – including almost every kind of omelette you can imagine.


Like my veggie number, which I enjoyed with a little smoked salmon.

Prefer something a little sweeter? Can you guess what this is?

 Yes, waffles made to order too. 

For all this amazing choice, we did have a couple of grumbles (which have been fed back). The hot area was so busy, that I suspect chef over oiled the pan, as my omelette was greasy, the bacon shows all the marks of a speedy cook, with over done fat. And the cooked meat looked like it had been left uncovered for too long. 

No ta.

For all that, what we enjoyed, we really did enjoy. The staff were fantastic, used plates and cups tidied swiftly, and new arrivals seated comfortable.

Then of course, we had the excuse to go and wander around the building, and the grounds afterwards to burn off some of the sausages and bacon.

What better excuse?
