Who doesn’t like a glass of fizz?
OK, I’ll admit Prosecco isn’t high on my list, I’m more fond of a good Cava, a fresh English sparkler, or the biscuity notes of a Champagne, but it’s something that we hold in high regard. It’s used for celebrations, weddings and, because it’s, well Tuesday night and the bar we’re in has an offer on.
Last year the first Fizz Festival was held in Altrincham. And somehow that totally passed me by. Outrageously so given Alty is just down the road from me (and on match days infinitely more accessible than the city). But this time around, nobody is going to catch me unawares.
Wait, no. Don’t take that a a challenge, I scare easy.
So what does a Fizz Festival involve? Simple over 100 sparkling wines for you to sample, from champers to Prosecco, Cava to the best English sparkling wines – master classes where you can learn more about the fizz in your glass and discounts if you feel the need to spend on a bottle or two (or six or twelve).
With names like Champagne Laurent Perrier, the award winning English vineyward Hush Heath and Champagne Thienot – the official Champagne of the Oscars 3 years running – you know there are going to be some delicious tasters on offer. Oh and food to help, er, sop up the alcohol.
If that weren’t enough, each visitor will have the opportunity to vote in the Fizz Festival People’s Choice Awards, picking their favourites in the Best Champagne, Best Sparkling Wine – UK and Best Sparkling Wine – Rest of World categories.
And if you want to know the result, book the discounted late Sunday package as the awards will be presented straight afterwards, accompanied by canapes and yet more fizz!
The whole thing takes place the weekend of 12/13 November at Altrincham Town Hall – a hop skip and jump (stumble, trip and giggle) away from the Metrolink, bus and train.
I may have already booked my ticket.
See you there.
